Seattle Symphony Popular Culture Series Minisite

At PBJS, I recently worked on a slick minisite to promote the Seattle Symphony Popular culture series starting in Feb 2008. The shows feature Bela Fleck, Los Lobos, and Herbie Hancock. Check it out, it's well done and if you're into any of the bands click on the buy now links. I'm totally stoked to see Los Lobos! See you there!

The site was built using Flash. All the cool tweening was done using the MCTween extension for AS2 as well as a touch of Fuse.

Vectorizeing bitmaps just got easier!

I ran across the VectorMagic website today and gave it a whirl. Very impressive service. Not only is it free, but it does a hell of a job. I uploaded this little gif:

and the service returned a very precise .eps file:
download.

I just wanted to share this cool service with my loyal readers. Another very cool aspect of this service is it's Flash based. You'll notice that it has a Flex interface and is running in a Flash player. For the type of work I do, this is one of the more useful online applications I've run across. Hopefully the people at Standford have heard about Adobe AIR and are working on a desktop version of VectorMagic! hint hint

The Red Box of Happiness

Pat making his tummy happy, with a little morning pick-me-up.

At PBJS, where I work, we occasionally throw out our diets for some tasty treats. This usually happens when the "Red Box of Happiness" is seen floating around the kitchen. The Red Box refers to a dozen of Top Pot's freshly made doughnuts. The bakery is only a few blocks away. It's amazing that there isn't a Red Box of Happiness around more often.

This blog post is created to celebrate good intentions, happy co-workers, and of course fried dough.

Thank you Red Box, Thank you.

Taking Adobe SHARE beta for a test drive.

On more than one occasion I've been tasked with creating a way for clients to upload and share files to members of a team. I typically create a resource site and FTP all my files up. The problem is that as the project grows, I have to constantly go back and upload and add more links. I've automated a few solutions in past months, but I really like how Adobe SHARE beta is looking. And at the moment, it's FREE :)

Above is the result of the embed code provided when you share a file with the Adobe SHARE beta. Just giving it a little test to see how well it works. You can also link directly to the file.

This service offers some good possibilities for collaborative work and getting files to clients. No more email attachments. You can track file activity. I haven't had a chance to test the limits of it yet, but since you can zip up files, it offers quite a lot of possibilities. The beta offers 1024MB of storage space. Not bad at all. You can delete files once they have been received. One of the really neat features is the image preview, so you can see what you're downloading before you download it.

You need to have an Adobe ID to participate in the beta. It's free to sign-up.
