This [insert medium here] is "
Written in the universal language of American English"
Did I peak your interest? Which Part?
I read this quote on a
website selling a book. One of the selling points was "Written in the universal language of American English." That peaked my interest. What implications could there be for a
universal language? I've been waiting for the universal translator myself. A
Bable Fish of sorts. Instead, it seems that American English is becoming universal. All implications aside, it is convenient to be fluent in American English, but I've always wanted to learn another language and it's becoming less and less necessary for me to speak another language in our modern times. Now I'm a bable
ing fish...
I believe that the only true universal language is experience. That's why pictures are so powerful. Pictures express experience. It's also why visual communication is so
universal. Think about
international signage, the simplicity in the message, but the richness of the communication. The simple stick figure, the skull and crossbones, the STOP SIGN. Think about it. Pictures are their own language, and they communicate through experience. It's much more universal than American English will ever be.
